State-of-the-Art Building Opened in 2009

The old Fun Time trailer was a 36-year-old, 4,200-square-foot trailer that was dilapidated and rain soaked by Hurricane Wilma in 2005. But it was cleaned up and pressed back into service because there was no other place available to provide the education and care for these young children.

The trailer’s location was chosen in 1970 for its convenience to walking parents and those dropping off and picking up by car. It was also convenient to the hospital for the children of workers there and for the treatment of illness in students and teachers.

The new facility is located just a few blocks from the old trailer. It offers 96 students (an increase of 60 percent) the opportunity to participate in Fun Time’s early education program, with the goal of getting them ready to enter kindergarten on an equal footing with their classmates. The 8,000-square-foot state-of-the-art building houses six classrooms, a multipurpose room for parent meetings and staff events, the Founders’ Room, staff offices, a kitchen and two playgrounds. Construction was completed in December 2008, and children started classes there in January 2009.

The current building, with its safety, security and increased potential for delivery of educational opportunities, represents a vast improvement for students, teachers and administrators.

We appreciate the many donors and volunteers who helped make this school building a reality!
